Using
Mirachem 250 in Painting Preparation
1)
Clean
and degrease item to be painted with Mirachem 500 or similar cleaner.
2)
Rinse
with reverse osmosis water or tap water if reverse osmosis water is not
available.
3)
Soak
or saturate the part in Mirachem 250 Rust & Scale Remover at full
strength up to a 3:1 dilution with water to remove any surface rust. The
addition of heat (110 to 115ºF) may help facilitate the rust removal.
DO NOT RINSE.
A
white powder residue may be present. This is part of the corrosion
inhibitor. Rinsing with tap water will remove the corrosion inhibitor
and immediately rust the steel part. This residue will not, in most
cases cause a problem with paint adhesion. (excess loose powder can be
wiped off with a dry cloth) This white residue, depending on storage
conditions, will protect parts from rusting for several days before
painting.
4)
When
item is fully dry, it can be painted.
NOTE: Mirachem 250 may
react with zinc (galvanized), magnesium, tempered carbon steel and some
aluminum alloys depending upon temperature and length of exposure. On
these surfaces, limit exposure time necessary to remove the rust or
corrosion and then water rinse.
